Recognizing When More Support Is Needed at Home

When care needs cannot be met with occasional visits or short check-ins, 24-hour care at home provides ongoing assistance for individuals who need regular support, supervision, or help managing daily routines throughout the day and night.

Families often consider around-the-clock assistance when they notice:

Live-In Care vs. Shift-Based 24-Hour Care: What’s the Difference?

24-hour care at home can be arranged in different ways depending on how care is scheduled. Live-in and shift-based models both provide support in the home, but they differ in caregiver availability, overnight coverage, and the level of ongoing supervision provided.

Specialized Support for Complex Conditions

Some health conditions require a higher level of assistance, supervision, and daily support than occasional visits can provide. Our 24-hour home care services help individuals with complex needs remain safe and comfortable at home while receiving support that fits their routines and changing circumstances.

Advanced Dementia & Alzheimer’s Disease

As dementia progresses, changes in memory, behaviour, and awareness can make everyday routines more challenging. Consistent support can help with supervision, familiar routines, companionship, and safety needs such as wandering prevention.

Parkinson’s Disease & Movement Disorders

Mobility changes, freezing episodes, falls, and medication routines can create challenges throughout the day. Specialized caregivers can help individuals living with Parkinson’s maintain safer routines at home.

ALS & Complex Neurological Conditions

Progressive conditions often require increasing levels of assistance with mobility, personal care, communication, and daily activities.

Recovery After Major Surgery or Hospital Discharge

After a serious procedure or hospital stay, some individuals need temporary around-the-clock support while they regain strength, manage medications, and safely return to daily routines.

Palliative & End-of-Life Care

For individuals who wish to remain at home, 24-hour care at home can provide comfort, dignity, companionship, and practical assistance for both clients and families.

Stroke Recovery or Serious Falls

Changes in mobility, balance, and independence after a stroke or major fall may require ongoing assistance while adjusting to new daily needs.

My Dad fractured his ankle, had surgery- and he couldn’t put any weight on it for 6 weeks., he is single no one close to help (I live in Saskatchewan) the Grace Hospital failed to set my Dad up with the proper homecare from being in the hospital, so when I came down to Winnipeg I knew I had to find someone for him right away- I googled “homecare in Winnipeg” and Partners in Homecare” was the first one that popped up., I’m SO thankful I picked them., I called later on a Friday- they listened to me & were there to help immediately no problem at all, Ama came out the very next day, assessed my Dad., and they started right away. I felt so much better knowing my dad was in good hands, he has loved having Neelam come check on him daily. It has been so great. I highly recommend them 100%, if anyone is in need.

We had an excellent experience with Partners for Home during a really stressful time for our family. We were trying to arrange home care in Winnipeg for my parents after a hospital stay, and their team made the process clear and manageable from the first conversation. The caregivers were professional, kind, and reliable, and they took the time to understand our situation rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution. Communication was strong throughout, and we always felt informed and supported. What stood out most was the genuine care and respect shown to my parents. It gave us real peace of mind knowing they were safe and well cared for at home. I would confidently recommend Partners for Home to anyone looking for in-home care services in Winnipeg.

We live in Winnipeg and have used Partners for Home Care for two different family members. Coming back to them the second time gave us immediate peace of mind, because we already knew we could trust their caregivers. They were compassionate, reliable, and communicated clearly, which helped reduce a lot of stress during a very emotional time. Knowing our loved ones were safe and genuinely cared for made all the difference for our family.

FAQ

How is care staffed? Does a caregiver sleep at my parent’s house?

Families often wonder how support works overnight and who will be there when help is needed. At Partners for Home Care, we use a shift-based model with a small team of caregivers rotating through scheduled shifts, meaning someone is always awake, alert, and available. This approach provides dependable support while maintaining the consistency and quality families expect from care delivered in their loved one’s home.
The cost of care depends on the level of assistance required, the number of hours of support needed, and your loved one’s individual situation. During a free in-home assessment, our team reviews your needs, explains the expected costs, and helps identify funding options that may make ongoing support more accessible.
There is no single answer because every family’s situation is different. Some families choose to continue care at home because their loved one can remain in familiar surroundings while receiving personalized assistance built around their routines, preferences, and needs. Partners helps families compare available options and understand the balance between cost, comfort, quality, and convenience.

Many families explore a combination of funding sources to help cover the cost of home care. Programs such as Self and Family Managed Care in Winnipeg, Manitoba Blue Cross, employer benefits, and other funding options may provide assistance depending on eligibility. Our team can help you understand what options may be available and guide you through the next steps.

Ongoing support may be helpful for individuals who need regular supervision, assistance with daily routines, or help managing complex health needs. This can include seniors and adults of different ages living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, Parkinson’s, ALS, neurological conditions, recovering after a hospital stay, or receiving palliative care at home.

The process begins with a conversation about your loved one’s needs, routines, and goals. During a free in-home assessment, our team takes the time to understand your situation, answer questions, and recommend a care approach that fits your family. You can contact Partners for Home Care to learn more about available services and next steps.
